Japanese Handleless Teapots /Hohin and Shiboridashi

In Japan, there are special teapots designed for carefully brewing premium green tea.
Among them are hohin and shiboridashi, two types of Japanese handleless teapots traditionally used for gyokuro and other fine Japanese teas.

What is a Hohin?

A hohin is a small handleless teapot with a rounded shape.
It is especially suitable for brewing gyokuro, high-grade sencha, and other teas prepared at a lower temperature.

For more information, please see our article on the sencha style.

What is a Shiboridashi?

A shiboridashi is another type of Japanese handleless teapot, but with a flatter and shallower shape.
It is often used for brewing small amounts of gyokuro with great care.

Handleless Teapots for a More Thoughtful Tea Time

Both hohin and shiboridashi are made for slow, attentive tea preparation.
They are ideal for those who want to enjoy the full character of Japanese tea through a more refined brewing experience.
